Overview

What is oncology care in India?

Cancer pathways here are built around tumour boards, surgical volume, and radiation or systemic therapy that can start without a year-long wait. We do not sell a “cancer package.” We match the file to a campus, list what is included for the first block of care, and keep you on one desk through staging and the first treatment window.

Hospital campus

Pathways

Types of oncology care

  • 01

    Surgical oncology

Resection at centres that do that tumour weekly, with reconstruction when the file needs it.

  • 02

    Radiation

IMRT, IGRT, and selected stereotactic programmes. Fraction counts are written, not guessed.

  • 03

    Systemic therapy

Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted drugs — availability and cost confirmed before you fly.

  • 04

    Second opinion

A tumour-board read of scans and histology when you want a plan before you travel — or instead of travel.

Treatments

How cases are usually structured

  1. 01

    Staging and biopsy review

We start with what you already have. Extra scans in India are listed if the board needs them.

  2. 02

    Index surgery

When resection is the next step, theatre, ICU, and reconstruction sit on one quote.

  3. 03

    Radiation block

Stay length follows fraction count. Housing near campus can be arranged.

  4. 04

    Systemic cycles

Some families complete the first cycles in India and continue at home with a shared protocol.

Care desk

How MedMax runs a oncology case

You do not need a finished hospital shortlist to start. Share what you have — letters, scans, or a short note — and a care manager maps the next clinical step for oncology before any report leaves MedMax.

  1. 01

Same-day acknowledgement, specialist view targeted within two business days

  2. 02

Hospital shortlist by volume and accreditation for this pathway — not a brochure directory

  3. 03

Written quote with theatre, implants or drugs, ICU nights, and attendant stay listed

  4. 04

Visa letter, pickup, and Recovery nights only after you approve a match

Causes

Why families travel

  1. 01

A confirmed diagnosis and a wait they cannot sit through

  2. 02

A drug or radiation technique not funded or available at home

  3. 03

A surgical resection that needs a high-volume team

  4. 04

A second opinion after conflicting reports

  5. 05

Cost of self-pay care in the US, UK, or Gulf

Treated

Pathways we coordinate

  • Breast, GI, and thoracic tumours
  • Head and neck cancers
  • Urological cancers
  • Gynaecological oncology
  • Haemato-oncology (selected)
  • Paediatric oncology (selected)

Common next steps

  • Tumour-board second opinion
  • Staging PET / MRI as advised
  • Oncologic resection
  • Radiation planning and delivery
  • Chemo / immunotherapy start
  • Port or biopsy procedures

Why this pathway

Why a planned oncology pathway?

  • 01

Cancer care is a sequence, not a single theatre date.

  • 02

Drug names and radiation fractions change the bill — they must be written.

  • 03

A board that sees that tumour often will tell you if travel is even the right next step.

  • 04

Family housing for a radiation block is part of care, not an afterthought.

Timing

When should you contact us?

  1. 01

You have a biopsy or scan and need a plan within weeks

  2. 02

A local team has recommended surgery, radiation, or a named drug

  3. 03

Two opinions disagree and you want a board to read the file

  4. 04

You cannot fund the self-pay pathway at home

  5. 05

You are well enough to travel — emergencies belong in the nearest hospital, not on a flight

After the theatre

Precautions & aftercare

  • Discharge includes histology, drug list, and the next cycle or radiation date.
  • Neutropenic or post-op patients may need a Recovery stay before a long-haul flight.
  • We brief a clinician at home when you continue cycles there.
  • This page is not a substitute for urgent fever, bleeding, or airway symptoms — seek local emergency care.

Stay on

Need nights after discharge?

Guest house, service apartment, or a hotel near campus — arranged as Recovery, not a tourist add-on.

Questions

Before you pack

Broader India travel questions live on Medical, Wellness, and Ayurveda.

Can you quote chemotherapy before seeing the file?

Only as a wide band. Named drugs, cycles, and supportive meds are confirmed after the board reads the reports.

What does oncology care cost in India?

The figure on this page is an indicative starting band, not a brochure package. After a specialist reads your reports we write a quote with theatre, implant or consumables, ICU and ward nights, and attendant stay listed separately. Estimates are marked as estimates.

How soon can we travel?

Most planned cases list a theatre window in weeks, not months — once reports are complete and you have approved a hospital. Visa timing depends on your passport and mission; we issue the invitation after you accept a quote.

Will the hospital see my reports before I say yes?

No. Files stay with MedMax until you approve a match. You can stop after a second opinion.

Can a family member stay with me?

Yes. Attendant beds and nearby stay are listed on the quote. After discharge we can arrange a Recovery stay if you need more days before the flight home.

Is this page medical advice?

This page is guidance for families planning care in India. Diagnosis and treatment decisions remain with your clinicians.
